Galapagos Islands cruise

Day 10

Galapagos Islands cruise

Morning excursion: Espinosa Point

Dry landing. Espinosa Point is the only spot that you visit on Fernandina, and from it you can see the island of Isabela across the Bolívar Channel, an area that boasts some of the highest diversity of endemic sea fauna in the Galapagos. The largest, most primitive-looking race of marine iguanas are found mingling with sea lions and Sally Lightfoot crabs; a wonderful opportunity to encounter flightless cormorants at their nesting sites, Galapagos penguins and the “king” of predators on the Islands, the Galapagos Hawk.

Afternoon excursion: Tagus Cove (Isabela)

Dry landing on Galapagos’ largest island where you will learn about the eruption of the five volcanoes that form it. The trail leads to Darwin’s salt-water crater lake and excellent views of lava fields and volcanic formations. Spot a variety of seabirds, such as the blue-footed booby, brown noddy, terns, flightless cormorant and, depending on the season, a large number of Galapagos penguins, which are only 35cm tall. Graffiti believed to have been left by 19th-century pirates is a curious reminder of an intriguing past.

Includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Galapagos Islands cruise

Day 11

Galapagos Islands cruise

Morning excursion: Vicente Roca Point

Thanks to its location in one of the richest marine ecosystems on earth (Bolivar Channel between Isabela and Fernandina Island), Vicente Roca offers unparalleled opportunities to observe a great diversity of sea and coastal birds as well as a wide variety of marine life.

Afternoon excursion: Urbina Bay

Wet landing on a volcanic “black” beach. Depending on the season, you'll see giant tortoises, land iguanas and flightless cormorants. After a short walk inland, enjoy some time snorkelling among the sea turtles, sea lions and tropical fish. You will explore the uplifted coral reef that resulted from 1954 volcanic activity, with a spectacular view of Alcedo Volcano.

Includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner
Galapagos Islands cruise

Day 12

Galapagos Islands cruise

Morning excursion: Egas Port (Santiago)

Wet landing on a beach of black volcanic sand, visited by Darwin in 1835. The unique, layered terrain of Santiago’s shores is home to a variety of resident and migrant birds, including the bizarre yellow-crowned night heron and marine wildlife including lobster, starfish and marine iguanas grazing on algae beds. Colonies of endemic fur seals swimming in cool water pools formed by volcanic rocks. Snorkelling here offers rarities such as octopus or squid.

Afternoon excursion: Sullivan Bay

Wet landing. This site at the southeastern portion of Santiago Island features extensive lava flows believed to have been formed during the last quarter of the 19th-century.

Includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 13

Galapagos - Quito

Morning (final) excursion: El Chato (Santa Cruz)

Dry landing. Visit a private farm, Primicias (El Chato), where giant tortoises are found in their natural habitat. The road to the reserve is one of the best places to observe land birds. Tree and ground finches, vermillion flycatchers and cattle egrets inhabit the area.

Afternoon transfer

That afternoon you will wave the Islands farewell and head to the airport for your return flight to Quito and make your international connection.

Includes: breakfast
