Digital Media Designer

  • Job title: Digital media designer
  • Type: Full time, permanent (3 month probation period)
  • Location: Sheffield, UK
  • Compensation: Competitive salary + stock options package
  • Closing date: 10 December

About the role

We're looking for a talented designer to join our production team and help ramp up and diversify our publishing activities.

The role's core focus is designing and producing our growing range of travel guides. This involves taking text and images from our editorial team and turning them into publications that look fantastic in print, PDF and ebook formats.

With your comprehensive InDesign expertise you'll be creating and updating our master templates, designing page layouts and exporting the finished product for a variety of formats. You'll also be maintaining our image libraries, helping update the website, and pitching in with other design projects as required.

The role involves juggling multiple projects at any one time while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and quality of output. You'll be responsible for creating and fine-tuning the efficient processes that enable us to produce consistently excellent publications at high volume.

Although the primary responsibility is with our print and digital publications, you'll also be developing new products in different media and formats, helping us remain at the forefront of publishing technology.

What's in it for you

  • This is a fantastic opportunity to join a fun, rapidly growing startup with an important mission and an industry-changing product.
  • We offer flexible working in a great environment at our Sheffield HQ.
  • You’ll join a team of passionate and dedicated people at a company that places huge emphasis on positive culture and personal development: the happiness and success of our people is our #1 priority.
  • A competitive salary and employee stock options to give you a real stake in the success of our business.

About you

  • You're a highly motivated self-starter. You don't want to just show up, work to a brief, and go home. You'll be brimming with ideas and you'll have the willingness and attitude to share them and make it happen. You'll relish the opportunity to shape the direction of our product and your role in the business.
  • You'll have exceptional digital design skills, with an emphasis on desktop publishing, InDesign, and page layout/design for print and digital formats.
  • Extensive experience (backed up by an excellent and diverse portfolio) of working with Adobe Creative Suite and other production/design software.
  • At the same time you'll have a thorough, process-driven approach to your work and are able to maintain a focus on all the important details.
  • You thrive in a dynamic working environment where every day is different and everyone gladly pitches in to support their colleagues as needed.
  • You're a dependable self-leader. You're happy working with plenty of support but without needing to be managed or told what to do on a regular basis.

  • A recent digital design/media qualification would be desirable but we'll consider applicants with equivalent work experience.
  • Working knowledge of other formats (ebooks, audio, video, HTML/CSS, animation, etc) is highly desirable, but not essential. But you'll need to have a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new skills quickly.

To apply

In the first instance please email with your CV and a brief introduction. We'll acknowledge all applications and will strive to provide detailed feedback as soon as we're able.

We're keen to build a team that is as diverse as the world we write about and we want our recruitment process to be as inclusive as possible. We're happy to accommodate any reasonable adjustments at any point in the process: please just let us know what you need.
